The fire was first spotted Friday afternoon, May 2, by several fire towers and triangulated to the Route 46 area, officials said. By 3:30 p.m., the blaze had 0% containment and was threatening 25 structures, though no evacuations were ordered. Two outbuildings sustained damage.

Route 46, along with Tannery Road and Russling Road, was closed for several hours as fire engines, bulldozers, and helicopters dropped water on the flames, the Forest Fire Service said. Roads have since reopened.

Crews will remain on site for the next several days to strengthen containment lines and monitor hotspots until the area receives significant rain, officials said. Smoke may continue to linger in the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. This will be the final update unless conditions change.
