A white powder in a suspicious envelope that brought a Hazmat team to a Bergen County administrative building in Hackensack turned out to be rather innocuous after all. Firefighters were called to 1 Bergen County Plaza around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, where they were told a letter containing some type of white powder had been delivered, they said. An overturned tractor-trailer caused a massive diesel spill on Route 80, authorities said. The Allamuchy Fire Dept. responded to the accident in the westbound lanes near milepost 19 in Allamuchy around 12 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, the squad said. Upon arrival, crews found the trailer on its side with a ruptured fuel tank leaking diesel fuel onto the highway. The HazMat team and Hope Fire Department was called to the scene due to the size of the spill, AFD said. Suspicious Powder At Bergen County Board Of Elections Brings Hazmat Team
A suspicious powder on an envelope sent to the Bergen County Superintendent of Elections Office brought a hazmat team to the county administration building in Hackensack on Wednesday. One person was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and was released after being evaluated, responders said. Small Amount Of Depleted Uranium Found At Springfield Synagogue
A small amount of uranium that was used as a teaching aid at a Springfield synagogue was safely removed Tuesday morning, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said. The marble-sized fragment of depleted uranium was accidentally left behind by a local educator in a meeting room at Temple Sha'arey Shalom on South Springfield Avenue.
