Scheduled presenters include the Meadowlands YMCA, which has provided before- and after-school care in Rutherford for the last 10 years, and Family Balance Concepts, a non-profit child care provider started by Bergen County resident Melissa Irwin-Imbriano.
The board will award the contract at its April 25 meeting, district superintendent Jack Hurley told Daily Voice.
After discovering that the board was considering a different provider, Meadowlands YMCA Program Director Sam Phillips emailed parents of children enrolled in the programs, encouraging them to attend the next meeting and support the YMCA.
"This is very concerning to us at the YMCA -- and should be to the parents we serve," Phillips said in the March 15 email. "A new provider may cause disruption to the lives of children, as well as pose very serious safety concerns for the children attending the program if there is not enough due diligence given to choosing a new provider."
Before and after-school care is currently provided by Meadowlands YMCA to Rutherford students in kindergarten through third grade at Sylvan, Lincoln and Washington schools.
Monthly tuition for mornings ranges from $107 to $157 for the first child and $97 to $147 for additional children. After-school tuition ranges from $169 to $301 for the first child and between $159 and $291 for additional children.
