Republicans Shut Out Democrats In North Arlington

NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. -- Republicans made it a clean sweep in North Arlington, with challengers Brian Fitzhenry and Allison Sheedy ousting incumbent Democrats Albert Granell and Thomas Zammatore, according to unofficial results from the Bergen County Board of Elections.

The mayor and council are now all Republicans.

Fitzhenry got 1,172 votes and Sheedy 1,075 for both three-year seats.Zammatore got 1,012 and Granell with 944.

Republican Marijo Karcic, a newcomer, also took an unexpired term with 1,068 votes over Democrat Kelly Velez, with 953.

Meanwhile, these races were decided elsewhere:

North Arlington Board of Education

NORTH ARLINGTON, N.J. -- Incumbent George McDermott ran unopposed for his North Arlington Board of Education seat. The borough police dispatcher and EMT received 1,034 votes.


LYNDHURST, N.J. -- Lyndhurst incumbents Ronald Grillo and Sheri Jarvis and newcomer Josephine Malaniak came out on top to win seats on the Lyndhurst Board of Education.

Five candidates were vying for the three open seats.

Grillo received 899 votes, Jarvis received 800 votes and Malaniak 716.

Joy Bilis and Chris Andrinopoulos Jr. both lost with 667 and 648 votes, respectively.

Wallington Mayor

Wallington, N.J. -- Democrat Councilman Mark Tomko ran unopposed for mayor and received 941 votes.He replaced longtime Mayor Walter Wargacki, who was first elected to office 24 years ago and announced in June that he wouldn't seek re-election.

On the council side, Republicans Khaldoun Androwis and Eugeniusz Rachelski won the election for two open three-year terms in a tight race.

Androwis received 688 votes and Rachelski 710 votes.

Democrat incumbent Krystyna Surowiec and newcomer David Pinto lost with 685 and 679 votes, respecxtively.

Wallington Local Board of Education

WALLINGTON, N.J. -- Incumbents Michael John Labriola and Christie Fusaro and newcomer Staci Hlavenka outdistanced Helena Plaskon for a trio of three-year seats.

Labriola received 533 votes and Hlavenka 527. Fusaro got 489.

Helena Plaskon finished with 418 votes.
