The incident began around 9:38 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, when New York State Police responded to a call of an ongoing incident on the parkway, said Trooper Daniel Ahlgrim, spokesman for the department.

Once on the scene, troopers saw a Toyota Tundra purposefully ramming an Audi on the parkway, southbound in the town of Hempstead, Ahlgrim said.

Responding troopers, assisted by the New York State Parks Police, attempted to intervene and stop the Toyota Tundra, which had become hooked to the bumper of the Audi, Ahlgrim said.

The driver of the Tundra, identified as Armondo Carcamo-Rivera, 41, refused to stop and after separating his bumper from the Audi and fled a short distance, but quickly returned to the Audi, struck it again, and pushed it, with State Police and Parks Police still pursuing him, police said.

During the pursuit, the Tundra stopped and backed into a Parks Police vehicle and fled again.

Police officers followed the Tundra into Suffolk County to Howells Road in Bayshore, where it became disabled and they took Carcamo-Rivera into custody.

Carcamo-Rivera was arrested and charged criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, fleeing from an officer, driving while ability impaired by drugs, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of a crash.

Carcamo-Rivera was held pending arraignment.
