The purpose of World Homeless Day is to draw attention to homeless people’s needs locally and provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness, while taking advantage of the stage an ‘international day’ provides.
The vehicles were packed with almost 2,000 pounds clothing and food -- socks, coats, hats, hoodies, sweat shirts, pants, shoes, hot food, sandwiches, granola bars, home baked treats, personal hygiene bags to distribute to the homeless of Newark.
“They truly appreciate the help,” said Stafford, of Wallington. “We know many of them that have been out on the street a long time.
"We help people in need. We do it all with volunteers and are able to do a lot because people give us donations. We couldn't do it without people all doing their parts."
