Healing Garden Opens at Hackensack's Audrey Hepburn Children’s House

HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center unveiled a garden to benefit patients at the Audrey Hepburn Children’s House.

Located on the first floor of the children’s house, the garden is a refuge, a way for children to enjoy nature, and a way to help them heal.

"It was always a nice space, but now it’s a beautiful sanctuary,” said Jeffrey Boscamp, Hackensack UMC vice president and chief academic officer and chairman and physician-in-chief of the Children’s Hospital.

The garden incorporates different spaces within it, including a sitting area for casual lunch or snacking, a lounge-like, confidential space for therapy sessions and a garden work area with potting bench and raised planter beds. These areas are surrounded by planters filled with native pollinator plants and shrubs, which will include the Highbush Blueberry plant, Purplecone flower, Black-eyed Susan flower, Beebalm flower, Little Bluestem grasses and more.
