Jovanni Perez, 39, who has been arrested multiple times for alleged drug offenses, now faces charges of possession, running a drug production facility, possession of paraphernalia and related charges.

The alleged drug operation -- which was raided shortly before 4 a.m. by a task force that included police from Bloomfield, Irvington and Newark -- was located at 11 Ampere Parkway and was disguised as a business.

In reality, it was a fully equipped narcotics processing and packaging facility, according to authorities.

“The Ampere Parkway location contained a large metal safe which contained 1,628 grams of powder cocaine, 129 grams of heroin, 3,680 grams of marijuana, 77 Ecstasy tablets, $5,410 in cash and a wide variety of drug packaging and processing materials and equipment,” Sheriff Fontoura said. “This drug manufacturing facility which was disguised with a bogus storefront was both fortified and equipped with surveillance cameras and other electronic gear.”

Perez was being held at the Essex County jail pending a bail hearing.
