The women, both in their 30s, were walking south on Broadway near 21st Street around 4 a.m. when Yvonne Bell, 40, approached them. Bell knew one of the women, police said.

Bell started a fight with one of the women, according to police. When the other intervened to try to stop the fight, Bell pulled a sharp object from her purse and stabbed and slashed at the victims' faces, arms and shoulders.

Bell, who was at the scene when police arrived, was arrested and charged with assault and weapons offenses. The object Bell used in the attack was not found, police said.

The injured women were taken to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.
