"She is a very strong independent single mother who has been through so much while raising her two children and finally picked up the pieces and earned a beautiful peaceful simple apartment for her to finally raise both her children working three jobs and studying to receive her bachelors degree to provide more for her kids and their future," organizers wrote about the woman and her young son and daughter.

The fire broke out Thursday at the fourth-floor apartment on Washington Street. Firefighters from Bloomfield and neighboring communities contained the blaze, which at one point blew through the front windows of the home.

A responding police officer suffered smoke inhalation and a firefighter suffered a minor injury.

Now the woman, who holds multiple jobs and is pursuing a bachelor's degree, is trying to rebuild, organizers of the GoFundMe campaign said.

"We are asking for your help to get her back on her feet so that her children can once again have what can be called home," organizers wrote.
