Pennsylvania Construction Worker Dies When Machinery Falls Into Icy NJ Waters For One Hour
A construction worker from Pennsylvania died when the machine he was operating fell into frigid Linden waters, trapping him inside for nearly an hour Thursday morning, according to officials and news reports. Fire and police units responded to a construction site at 4900 Tremley Point Road, where the excavator had fallen into the Arthur Kill River Channel -- the operator inside a small pocket of air around 8 a.m., Linden police said in a release. In Lawsuit, Black Linden Firefighters Say Ex-Chief Regularly Used 'N-Word'
A lawsuit was filed in Union County Superior Court this week alleging that Linden allowed its fire department to become a "racist environment." The suit, announced at a press conference hosted by the New Jersey Clergy Coalition for Justice, was filed by two former firefighters, both African-American, who say they were regularly exposed to racist treatment, including use of the N-word by the former chief, Joseph Dooley.
