Students who complete Web Design Learning Center’s 21-day certificate program will design fully functional websites for businesses in medical education, event decoration and audio/video installation. The websites will range from simple one-page layouts to complex 5-page designs.

“We’re thrilled to partner with these companies and give our students the chance to build and design their websites,’’ said Elias Ocasio, the owner of Nariel LLC, which owns Web Design Learning Center. “One of the things that sets our business apart is the opportunity to get real hands-on experience. This is a perfect example of that.”

Each business oversees the project and provides feedback to students as they design the site. “The challenge for the students is to translate what they learned into a fully-functioning website,’’ Ocasio said. “Classes are taught in bite-sized chunks. The trick is to take those little chunks and make them fit together to produce the site.”

The students will take about a week to design the site. They can bring their own creativity to the project, as long as their ideas meet the guidelines of the client. The first sites for businesses will be built next month and should be up and running by July.

“Our clients love the idea of having students working on their websites,’’ Ocasio said. “They know they are helping a new generation of web developers. It’s also an opportunity for clients to evaluate what might turn out to be a future job candidate.”

Web Design Learning Center of New Jersey offers six courses in its certificate web design program, which can be taken individually or collectively. The six-course program costs $3,600 if all of the units are taken collectively, a 27 percent savings from the cost if they are taken individually.
