SOUTH HACKENSACK, N.J. -- South Hackensack Committee Member William Regan was charged with domestic violence after police said he grabbed his wife and pulled her to the ground, injuring her, according to a court summons obtained by Daily Voice.

The complaint out of South Hackensack Municipal Court accuses the 52-year-old police commissioner of "purposely, knowingly, recklessly causing bodily injury to the victim, Maria Regan, his wife, specifically by grabbing her by the arms and pulling her to the ground and [k]nees" last Wednesday.

Regan, who has worked protecting celebrities and company executives and for the past year has driven a limousine, was the borough mayor from January 2014 to January 2016. He served as deputy mayor the previous two years after joining the Township Committee in 2011.

Regan, of Dyer Avenue, was sworn to his third committee term earlier this month.

He has been co-chairman of the Zoning Board, a member of the Board of Education and a town sports coach -- as well as serving the past 25 years as a volunteer firefighter.

Daily Voice sought and obtained a copy of the complaint against him on Monday after police refused comment on the case.

A voicemail seeking comment was left for Regan Monday afternoon.
