Rochelle Park Police Grow Out Facial Hair To Support Men's Health

ROCHELLE PARK, N.J. -- Rochelle Park police got the OK from Chief Robert Flannelly to participate in No-Shave November to raise awareness of men's physical and mental health issues.

"By encouraging men to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths," according to the a GoFundMe page created by the department."Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle," it says.

In order to participate, each officer is asked to donated $100. All 20 members of the department agreed to throw in, amassing $2,000 to serve as an attraction for civilians to participate, as well.

At the end of Movember, officers will present a check to the John Theurer Cancer Center Urologic Oncology Division at Hackensack University Medical Center.

"Guys are walking around scratching their face," Flannelly said."As soon as November is over it will be nice to shave again."
