At 1:50 a.m. Friday, Darien police stopped a 2005 black Jeep Grand Cherokee that exited I-95 south and headed west in the eastbound lanes of the Post Road, police said.
When the vehicle was stopped, the officer detected the odor of alcohol, police said, and the driver's eyes were red and watery.
The driver took a breathalyzer test and scored .1701 and the .1686, about twice the legal limit of .08, police said.
Jorge Herrera-Vasquez, 28, of 186 Sherman Ave., Apt. A, New Haven was arrested and charged with operating under suspension, operating under the influence, and operating the wrong way on a one-way street, police said.
He was released on $500 bond for a court date of Monday, March 27.
The car was turned over to a family member who was the registered owner of the car.
