Updated: More Than 40 New Jersey ShopRite Stores Reported Coronavirus-Positive Workers

More than 40 ShopRite stores in New Jersey have workers sickened by coronavirus and three with employees showing symptoms of the virus, the grocer said.

Some have been updating their Facebook pages when an employee tests positive. 

None of the workers who tested positive remain at work and those who were in close contact with them were ordered to self-quarantine, ShopRite said.

Stores in Bayonne, Passaic, Hillside, Little Falls and Sparta reported having workers with suspected cases of the virus.

The company is not permitted to release names, schedules or the departments the employees worked in.

Wakefern Food Corp., which managers ShopRite stores, next week will begin taking the temperatures of vendors and employees using non-contact forehead infrared thermometers as they arrive for work.

The program will be launch at all stores and warehouses.

Earlier this month, the Wakegern installed plexiglas shields at cash registers, customer service counters and pharmacies across all banner brands including ShopRite, The Fresh Grocer, Price Rite Marketplace, Dearborn Market and Gourmet Garage. 

Stores also recently began limiting occupancy during peak shopping hours, and in keeping with new recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), all store associates will wear protective masks.
