James McPherson lost his left leg from the knee down following the crash on Sunday, May 28, according to a GoFundMe launched for his medical expenses.

“James has always been the person to drop whatever he’s doing and help any one of his friends at the drop of a dime,” reads the campaign, launched by a friend the day afterward. “Anytime I’d call James would be there.”

The crash occurred on the 2000 block of Tuckahoe Road in Franklin Township (Gloucester County), police confirmed in a post recognizing responding Officer Thomas Rambone as Officer of the Month.

Rambone was on his way to work in his personal vehicle and rushed to the scene when he heard about the incident on his police radio. He then applied a tourniquet and facilitated additional emergency response measures.

“Information supplied to the police department from hospital staff and family of the victim have indicated that the actions taken by Officer Rambone saved this man’s life,” reads the post.

Officer Rambone even received public recognition from McPherson himself:

“Words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation for this amazing officer that saved my life on Sunday,” the emotional post says.

“Continue to do gods work, you were obviously put on this planet for big reasons! I hope to meet you after some of my recovery! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

Meanwhile, more than $13,200 had been raised for McPherson’s medical expenses as of Friday, June 9.

“In hard times like this it’s a constant worry with everything and being out of work not making money is always not a pleasant worry to add on top. So as a friend for a friend I’m asking if we can come together and try to lighten his load. Even if you can’t donate even a share would be appreciated!”
