GARFIELD, N.J. — Seniors at Garfield High School will soon have a new course on the schedule, thanks to police.

#NOTEVENONCE is a program developed to help combat the opiate epidemic that has hit New Jersey by storm.

Developed by Chief Lisa D. Parker of the Manchester Township Police Department, the program is designed to help combat the overdose problem she was having in her town.

#NOTEVENONCE will allow the officers to interact with students in a relaxed school setting with three, 80-minute classes while discussing important information about opiates that may save a life in the future.

The program also brings in a certified recovery specialist to speak to the students about real life experiences they have gone through.

The Garfield Police Department has trained nine officers in the #NOTEVENONCE program who are eager to get into the classrooms and discuss and educate the students on this very important topic. Not only will the #NOTEVENONCE program educate the students on the dangers of opiates, it will also build positive relationships between the students and the officers, police said.

The program will begin next week.
