GARFIELD, N.J. -- The Garfield City Council approved a new, three-year contract for the police department on Tuesday, according to NorthJersey.com.
The new contract is retroactive to Jan. 1 of this year and will run through Dec. 31, 2017. Under the agreement, new officers will start at a lower base salary ($28,000, down from $32,591) and the annual increases will be lower ($7,200 annually down from $11,400). The changes only apply to officers hired after July1, NorthJersey.com reported.
