Louis Colon, 44, was sitting at the square at 9 a.m., drinking a beer, when officers grabbed him, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.

It was the second bicycle-theft arrest for the PAPD at the busy Jersey City transportation hub in less than 24 hours (SEE: Port Authority police make arrest in Journal Square bicycle thefts).

Today’s arrest followed an investigation into the thefts of two bikes worth a combined $900, authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The first was on June 17 and the second on June 25. In each case, a chain or lock was cut open, he said.

“When they arrested Colon today, he was carrying cutting pliers,” Pentangelo said.

Colon, of Bayview Avenue, was released pending a court hearing on charges of theft, criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools.
