The phones "help these victims feel safe knowing they can call 911 in case of an emergency," said Officer Jeff Stewart of the Community Affairs Division after the presentation was made to Alternatives To Domestic Violence (ADV) in Hackensack.

Experts say one in four women, one in nine men and more than 3 million children in the United State are affected by domestic violence.

A phone gives victims a chance at escape and survivors the means to stay in touch with their families, their jobs and law enforcement -- as well as to medical care.
