First Floor Collapses In Vernon Township House Fire

The first floor of a Vernon Township home collapsed in a fire Monday, fire officials said.

Fire companies from the township and surrounding areas were called to the Route 94 southbound home around 1:12 p.m. for the second-alarm blaze, Vernon Township Fire Marshall Lou Tosto said.

No injuries were reported in the fire, which was under control as of 4:20 p.m., according to Tosto.

Mutual aid was provided by Vernon Township fire companies: McAfee Fire Department, Highland Lakes Fire Department and the Pochuck Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

The Sussex County, Hardyston and Warwick fire departments also responded.

Tosto was planning on beginning the fire investigation on Tuesday, he said.
