The 30-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after her car struck a guardrail near milepost 157.7 in Clifton, went across the highway and crashed into a concrete barrier, authorities said.

Friends described the special education teacher as being someone who radiated happiness and positivity.

"I can’t remember a moment when you weren’t smiling," said Jose Ybarra, who worked with Munoz at Garden State Plaza's Apple store, "always able to light up any environment you were in."

"I always had so much fun with Jess," Melissa Braciliano said in a Facebook comment. "I can't stop saying what a kind person she was."

Munoz had been working at Grace Wilday Junior High School in Roselle. She earned her associate's degree at Bergen Community College before her bachelor's and master's degrees at Montclair State University.

A funeral service will be on Saturday at the Our Lady Queen of Peace RC Church in Maywood at 11 a.m.
