GARFIELD, N.J. -- Jack Bernice, a resident of Garfield and formerly of Lodi and Cape Coral, Fla., died Saturday, April 16. He was 97.
He was born in Garfield to the late Salvatore and Carmela Pernice.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1941-45 and was a charter member of the V.F.W. Post in Lodi and a member of the Fifth Armored Division Association. Before retiring, he was a carpenter for the Carpenter’s Union Local 15 in Hackensack.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; his children Anthony B. Bernice and his wife Dorothy, Jack C. Bernice and his wife Jean and Salvatore Bernice; grandchildren, Nicholas, Guy, Louis, Vicki and Russell; and great-grandchildren Katie and Ryan.
He was predeceased by Catherine Bernice; and his siblings Anthony, Charles and Mary Lombardo.
There will be a funeral at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Costa Memorial Home, Boulevard and Central Avenue, Hasbrouck Heights. There will be a 10 a.m. funeral liturgy at Corpus Christi R.C. Church, Hasbrouck Heights. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
