LODI, N.J. — Bruce T. Masopust brought his years of Lodi experience from the local council and school system into his new role as borough manager.

Masopust previously served 18 years on the borough council before becoming the new manager this month. He takes over for Tony Luna who retired after 11 years in the role.

"I bleed orange and blue," Masopust said of his devotion to Lodi, noting the school colors. "I look forward to serving the residents of Lodi."

Masopust, 56, served as mayor and council president during his tenure. He also worked at Lodi High School for 22 years as an attendance counselor.

The new manager lived in Lodi his whole life. He attended Muhlenberg College but left before graduating to work in the family business. He was the vice president and general manager of Gourmet Food in New York City before joining the Lodi school staff.

His time on the council may have prepared him the best, though.

"I was lucky enough to serve with eight different mayors in my career as a councilman and I believe I learned a little bit from every one of them," he said. "As a group, the councils over the years have always had the heart of the community as their goal."

Masopust also joined several volunteer groups such as the Lodi Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Italian-American Forum, and more.

As manager Masopust said he kept his list of goals short.

"I have two basic goals," he said. "My goals are to stabilize taxes and provide services. That's what I feel in a nutshell. I feel everything else works off of that."
