A GoFundMe account was established by Bryan Thomson, a former co-worker and family friend who works for the Bergen County SPCA, "to help the family cover the expenses associated with the funeral services and memorial service."

Klos, who was graduated from Garfield High School in 2016, is survived by his mother, Kasia DelMonte, and stepfather, Anthony DelMonte; his sister, Sabina Klos; and his aunt, Asia Rzekec.

Shock spread through the community, including Garfield's amateur SC Vistula soccer team, with the news that Klos -- known for his humor and emotional strength -- had been killed Sunday night when his gray 2007 Jeep Cherokee crashed and ignited on Clinton Road in West Milford.

An investigation into the cause was continuing, authorities in West Milford said Friday.

Klos, who began playing soccer at a young age, had a "constant smile, humor, and pure joy [that] made not a single moment of practice dull," wrote teammate Christopher Kondratowicz.

"No matter how many heart attacks you gave me when you would dribble [the ball] as a goalie, I always trusted you fully when we were on the field together, knowing you always had my back," Kondratowicz added in a Facebook tribute to his friend.

"You stood up for all your teammates, being the first one to break up a fight or join in if you had to," he wrote. "SC Vistula will not be the same with out you."
