"So many children in our service area don't have the joy of packing a new backpack for school or the supplies to put in it," according to a Y press release. "There are children whose families have been struck by traumas, illness and loss. The Garfield Y would love to send these children into a new school year with the supplies they need to succeed," the organization said in a statement. "In addition, schools have faced extreme budget cuts. By donating school supplies, we're helping our children, teachers, schools and communities."
Acceptable items include pens, pencils, binders, folders, scissors, glue, notebooks, backpacks, markers, and crayons.
The items can be dropped off at the Y, at 33 Outwater Lane.
