MAHWAH, N.J. – An award-winning film that shows the devastation of opioid addiction will be screened at Ramapo College later this month.

Admission is free, but pre-registration is required to attend the 7 p.m. Jan. 31 on-campus screening of "Dying in Vein — The Opiate Generation," presented by the Mahwah Municipal Alliance in conjunction with township police and the college, at the Sharp Theater (Berrie Center).

Families will “leave the theater with a better understanding of the opioid epidemic that is occurring across our nation” after viewing four real-life stories that “closely examine the problem of addiction, the impact on our society and the broken treatment system,” the alliance said.

Director Jenny Mackenzie will be on hand to discuss the hour-long film during a panel discussion and Q&A following the screening.

In addition, there will be resource tables offering materials, services and information for those suffering from or who know someone experiencing a substance abuse problem.

“It is not a problem that is going to be solved by arrests alone and requires community stakeholders to work together on solutions,” Police Chief James N. Batelli and MMA President Carolyn Blake said in a joint release Tuesday.
