Englewood Students Stomp Out Stigma Thursday Englewood Students Stomp Out Stigma Thursday
Englewood Students Stomp Out Stigma Thursday ENGLEWOOD, N.J. – Englewood is working to give stigma the boot. The town’s health department is asking local students to sign a pledge to stomp out the stigma around mental illness and substance use disorders when officials visited the Janis E. Dismus Middle School earlier this month. “Englewood can expand but overall, including youth in the Stigma-Free Initiative is vital as their belief systems evolve with the knowledge,” Director of the Bergen County Department of Health Services Michele Hart-Loughlin said.  The event will be at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center on March 31 at 7 p.…

Teaneck Firefighters Look Out For Seniors TEANECK, N.J. – The first person some local seniors talk to every morning is a firefighter, thanks to the Teaneck Fire Department's Good Morning Check-Up phone call program. After more than three decades, the program is still going strong. “Good morning, fire department. Just checking in, everything okay,” Teaneck firefighter Brendan Sterbinsky asked a Teaneck senior over the phone early one March morning. “Alright, excellent. Have a nice day.” If a senior doesn’t pick up on the first call, a firefighter waits a few minutes, calls back and then visits the person’s home if there's still no …

Saturday Marks 34 Years Since Cyndi Lauper Performed On Bergenfield Stage BERGENFIELD, N.J. – Pop icon Cyndi Lauper dominated a Bergenfield stage 34 years ago today. The singer, then part of rockabilly band Blue Angel, knew her worth even then, former nightclub owner Rick Bandazian said. There were two dressing rooms and — as the opening act for David Johansen — Lauper’s band was relegated to one that was more like a dumpy closet with a coach, Bandazian said. Lauper complained. “I kind of don’t blame her for that now,” Bandazian said. Lauper went on to rock the stage at The Circus in Bergenfield that night. “She was excellent," Bandazian said. "In fa…
