The winner of Friday night's game will have a clear path to the division title, and a shot to become the first ever NJIC playoff champion.

The North Jersey Interscholastic Football Conference Meadowlands division pre-season co-favorites have not disappointed out of the blocks, winning their opening games convincingly.

Cresskill High School opened with a 30-0 win over Saddle Brook, and the Cougars followed that up with a 42-0 win over Secaucus. Hasbrouck Heights defeated St. Mary (Rutherford) in the opener, 41-0, followed by a 53-6 win over Secaucus.

Following the state football realignment, the NJIC instituted a unique conference set-up, breaking its teams into four football-playing divisions.

The final two weeks of the season will be a playoff set-up with the division’s first place teams playing each other, culminating in a champion when the winners meet the following weekend.

The remaining teams will follow the same format against teams that finished in the same spot in the standings from the other divisions.

Cresskill travels to Depken Field in Hasbrouck Heights Friday night and will have to deal with one of the rowdier fan sections in Bergen County, Hasbrouck Heights famed “Black Hole.”

The other leaders in the NJIC conference races are:

  • Colonial: Waldwick/Midland Park and Rutherford are tied at 2-0.
  • Liberty: New Milford and Harrison are both 2-0.

Patriot: Becton Regional is 2-0 and is the only undefeated team in the division.
