Officers Ardian Cela and Gerard Venezia had noticed the 2016 Mazda SUV while responding to another incident about an hour earlier, Detective Capt. Laurence Martin said.

Drug paraphernalia in plain view raised their suspicions, prompting a search that turned up the drugs and cash, Martin said.

The driver, 44-year-old Edward Cahill, was released pending court action on various drug offenses, under New Jersey’s 2017 bail reform law, the captain said.

An unidentified passenger was released without charges.
