FORT LEE, N.J. -- Port Authority police nabbed an accused deadbeat driver from Manhattan who they said amassed nearly $3,000 in unpaid George Washington Bridge tolls using an E-ZPass transponder stolen from a rental car.

Officers pulled over a 2014 Nissan driven by 27-year-old Kamal M. Alzanam on the bridge's upper-level toll plaza Sunday morning because it had a bogus license plate on the back and none in front, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo told Daily Voice.

Alzanam gave them a fake name and the transponder, which was reported stolen in December 2015, he said.

It has "incurred a total of 45 violations that amounted to $ 2,899, all from the GWB," Pentangelo said.

He was also carrying a Georgia driver's license and health insurance card that weren't his, he said.

Police identified Alzanam through his fingerprints -- it turned out he was wanted on several warrants, including one each from Mount Laurel and Maryland, Pentangelo said.

He was ordered held on $10,000 bail, charged with theft of services, receiving stolen property, hindering prosecution and unsworn falsification, and was issued several traffic summonses.
