John P. Reynolds, 25, of Englewood held a cellphone to his windshield as if it were a transponder as his red Toyota rolled through an E-ZPass lane Wednesday morning, the authority's Joseph Pentangelo said.
The Toyota had a cancelled account with 190 violations worth $12,240, Pentangelo said.
He also had another suspended E-ZPass account in his name with 115 violations and $7,244 owed, he said.
Reynolds was taken into custody on theft of services and toll evasion charges. He also received several traffic summonses.
A little over 24 hours later, authority police at the bridge's lower level tolls arrested another alleged deadbeat driver behind the wheel of a 2016 Honda that had amassed 49 violations totaling $9,464, Pentangelo said.
Lucy Sanchez, 46, of North Plainfield -- who was charged with theft of services and toll evasion -- had a transponder in the car but didn't use it, he said. She received several traffic summonses.
Neither Sanchez nor Reynolds had valid driver's licenses, Pentangelo said. Both of their vehicles were impounded.
