An Edgewater public works employee who was trimming grass earlier today found the body of Eugene Jaspan, 49, on the bank of the Hudson River in the area of Veterans Park, Detective Capt. Stanley Zon said.

He was carrying his driver’s license, the captain said.

Sources said Jaspan left behind a note yesterday morning that led his family to contact police, who began reviewing the traffic cameras.

“At approximately 8:57 a.m., the victim was observed exiting his residence and walking east on North Avenue,” Zon said. “Through the numerous cameras throughout town, he was eventually observed walking on Hudson Terrace in the area of the George Washington Bridge around 9:19 a.m.

Port Authority police pinpointed Jaspan on the southside walkway at 9:26 a.m., he added.

“That was the last known location of the victim,” Zon said.

An autopsy was scheduled at the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office.
