EAST FISHKILL, N.Y. -- A 17-year-old girl has been arrested in connection to a threatening note found by another student on Monday at John Jay High School.

On Wednesday, East Fishkill police said the teenage student from John Jay High, whose name has not been released, was arrsted about midnight on Monday after an investigation by detectives.

She was charged with making a terroristic threat -- a class D felony. She was arraigned in Town of Fishkill Justice Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond pending her return to court.

The charge stems from a note found by another student and turned over to a staff member on Monday morning. The note indicated that there may be someone in the school with a gun. The high school was locked down.

The school conducted a “Hold In Place” protocol while the School Resource Officer and school administrators assessed the potential of any threat to students.

The school was evacuated as a precaution according to safety plans while police investigated the origin of the note.

State police also assisted East Fishkillat the scene to ensure the dismissal was orderly.

State police bomb dogs, which also detect gun powder, were called to the school once students had left and checked the school. Nothing was found and the building was determined to be safe.

Detectives worked continuously on the case and as a result the investigation determined the incident to be a hoax.

At no time were the students at John Jay in any danger, police said, and student safety was the primary concern of all the agencies working at the school.

The Dutchess County District Attorney's Office and the Dutchess County Drug Task Force, who provided technical assistance, assisted in the investigation.
