Palisades Park Man Charged In Auto Repair Invoice Scam

Dong Seok

PALISADES PARK, N.J. -- Bergen County authorities charged a Palisades Park auto repair shop operator arrested in a drug sweep last week with scamming insurance companies using software that generated bogus invoices for unwarranted work.

Dong Seok, 30, sent 10 dummy invoices to Allstate Insurance in May, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said this afternoon.

Seok, who owns King’s Auto Body, also sent letters to the insurer "in which he reported that he had utilized a new 'waterborne' paint line/system to complete repairs to several automobiles," the prosecutor said.

"[T]he use of the paint system had increased the cost beyond the initial estimates and insurance reimbursed costs," he said.

Seok didn't use any such paint and the band "was just listed to support his request for the increased insurance reimbursements," Molinelli said.

He then lied to investigators, the prosecutor said.

Molinelli said his White Collar Crimes Unit got tipped off last month by the state Division of Criminal Justice's Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor.

Detectives served Seok with a complaint charging him with insurance fraud and hindering the investigation yesterday at the Essex County Jail.

Seok was one of two dozen people seized by Essex County prosecutor's detectives on heroin possession and distribution charges last Friday morning.

Last year, he was charged with DWI after he crashed his car into a brick parking garage wall on Main Street in Fort Lee.

Seok was scheduled for an Oct. 1 initial appearance on the Bergen County charges in Central Municipal Court in Hackensack.
