PALISADES PARK, N.J. – A Guatemalan national living and working as a laborer in Palisades Park was charged with sexual assault after authorities said he inappropriately touched a 7-year-old girl.
Tomas Gonzalez-Teletor, 36, remained held in the Bergen County Jail on Friday following his arrest the day before.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a detainer on him – meaning he would remain in custody even if a local judge orders his release on the charges.
Palisades Park on Saturday “received that a 7-year-old female was inappropriately touched” by Gonzalez-Teletor in the borough last October, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo said.
An investigation by Calo’s Special Victims Unit and borough police led to the arrest on charges of sexual assault by contact and child endangerment, the prosecutor said.
