Rescuers recovered the body of a 21-year-old man who jumped to his death Thursday afternoon from the lower level of the George Washington Bridge.
Port Authority police who heard an NYPD alert of a possible suicidal person at the George Washington Bridge found an abandoned vehicle on the Manhattan-bound side shortly after noon, authority spokeswoman Lenis Rodrigues said.
Less than 10 minutes later, officers "saw a man floating in the Hudson River below the westbound side of the bridge," she said.
The NYPD Harbor Unit brought the body to the Ross Dock in the Fort Lee section of Palisades Interstate Park a short time later, Rodrigues said.
The vehicle was impounded and police were notifying next of kin, she said.
