Fort Lee police bust Pennsylvania couple in roadside pot haul

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Pennsylvania couple had a pound and a half of pot in their car when they were stopped on southbound Route 1 this past weekend, Fort Lee police said tonight.

Officers Zachary Joseph and Jared Zusi of the Fort Lee Police Department stopped the couple’s Nissan Altima for having an obstructed license plate and not maintaning a lane, Detective Capt. Stanley Zon said.

Both “were acting extremely nervous,” Zon said.

The driver, 43-year-old Brian Campbell of Montgomeryville, PA, said he’d borrowed the car from a friend weeks ago but didn’t know how to contact him, the captain said.

K9 Officer Richard Hernandez and his partner, Greener, responded for an exterior sniff, for which the canine gave a positive indication of drugs in the vehicle, Zon said.

The officer impounded the car and obtained a warrant, he said.

Campbell, meanwhile, failed a field sobriety test and was arrested — as was his passenger, Odalisse Nunez, 31, of Philadelphia, after officers found her in violation of a court order, Zon said.

After obtaining the warrant, the officer found the marijuana, along with a digital scale and other drug paraphernalia, the captain said.

Nunez was released on a summons.

Campbell, meanwhile, was being held on $10,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

Both are charged with marijuana possession with the intent to distribute the drug and drug paraphernalia possession. Campbell also was charged with being under the influence.
