FORT LEE, N.J. — More than $18,000 has been raised on a GoFundMe site launched in memory of a Fort Lee dad who on April 20 was found by his colleague lifeless on the bathroom floor at work — the day he was supposed to present his research findings.

Sean (Xiaowei) Chen died due to a ruptured cerebral aneurysm at the Irving Cancer Center at Columbia University Medical Center on April 20. He was 35.

Chen was preparing to present his findings on myeloid niche and stem cells that day, GoFundMe says.

The site was started by Xing Du, who remembers Chen as a passionate scientist, and considerate and helpful coworker.

Born in China, Chen obtained his BS at Hunan Normal University in 2001, MS at Southern Medical University in 2008, and Ph.D at Chinese University of Hong Kong and Columbia University in 2014.

He has been working at Irving Cancer Center at CUMC as a postdoctoral research scientist and associate research scientist. Chen was devoted wholeheartedly to his research about cancer and leukemia and was extremely productive, Du said on the GoFundMe.

He is survived by his wife, Phoebe, and their daughter, Bella.
