FORT LEE, N.J. -- Happy Birthday to Fort Lee’s Ron Johnson!

Ronald Adolphus Johnson turns 68 Oct. 17.

Johnson was a record-setting running back with the New York Giants and the University of Michigan. He went on to be a successful entrepreneur, starting the Totowa, N.J. company Rackson in 1983 and, with his son Christopher, amassed 13 Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises in New Jersey and Michigan.

Johnson played seven seasons in the National Football League (NFL) from1969 to 1975 and became the first player in Giants history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. He retired from football in 1975 and was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1992. Johnson was made chairman of the National Football Foundation in 2006.
