GLEN ROCK, N.J. — The Glen Rock Panthers football claimed the No. 1 seed for the North Jersey Section 1, Group 2 playoffs, starting Saturday, Nov. 14.
The 6-2 Panthers will play at home against Newton's Kittatinny Regional at 1 p.m.
Glen Rock — who'd already secured a spot in the playoffs before the Nov. 7 game — fell short 40-21 to the Garfield Boilermakers after being up 21-0 in the first half.
Glen Rock's quarterback Matt Schlett and wide receiver Tommy Pulzello — both starters — were pulled out of the game after 24 minutes.
Garfield's running back Aveon Irving was quick to rack up the points with four touchdowns that helped lead the team to victory.
If the Panthers can defeat Kittatinny Saturday, it could set up a rematch with rival Hawthorne in the semifinals.
Glen Rock handed the Hawthorne Bears their only loss of the season 41-18 Sept. 18. No. 4 Hawthorne will face Sussex Tech in the first round.
