Video: Carlstadt Students 'Teach The World To Sing'

CARLSTADT, N.J. — Carlstadt Public School sixth graders wrapped up their "Peace by Peace" project with a video in which they sing "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing," an early 1970s song that started as a Coca-Cola commercial jingle.

The Peace by Peace project was the idea of math teacher Esther Fletcher as a way to foster a more peaceful and accepting school environment.

"I thought there was so much anger in the world and that we could all use a little love," Fletcher told Daily Voice.

Soon enough, kindergarteners were making peace signs in art class and second graders were reading peace songs and underlining the verbs and nouns.

At years end, Fletcher said the program was a great success.

"I believe that every one of these students will move forward with a more open heart and a desire to promote peace," Fletcher told Daily Voice. " The video is a perfect representation of moving forward in harmony."
