Fair Lawn Mayor Cosgrove: Won't Seek State Office In 2017

"I remain extremely flattered by the many party leaders who have sought my nomination and am grateful for their confidence in my leadership," Cosgrove said.

However, he said, "I think it important to end speculation regarding my candidacy so that other candidates may be selected.

"While much is broken in Trenton and needs strong and dedicated attention, I have decided to remain in Fair Lawn, to finish my term as Mayor and on Council, to ensure the completion of important municipal projects such as our Senior Housing complex," he said.

"I hear the taxpayers of New Jersey as they continue to ask how our state can have the highest property taxes in the nation -- and yet, New Jersey legislators are unable to repair our bridges, our roads and other infrastructure, or find solutions for continuing crisis situations like our pension system.

"It will take strong leadership, capable of making the tough decisions and working with all stakeholders to move New Jersey in a positive direction," Cosgrove said. "We know that change must come to stop the exodus of employers and longtime residents.

"I look forward to working with legislative candidates who are prepared to bring about this much needed change for a better future for our taxpayers, for Fair Lawn, and for New Jersey."
