GLEN ROCK, N.J. -- Glen Rock police were investigating a series of social media chats which led to an evacuation of the high school on Friday.

Principal John Arlotta "reported receiving information concerning a social media threat toward the school, which was initially believed to be a bomb threat," Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.

Glen Rock patrols, along with a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Fair Lawn police immediately responded -- with borough firefighters and the ambulance corps placed on standby as a precaution, Ackermann said.

Arlotta initially called for an evacuation to the football fields at 12:40 p.m., students told Daily Voice.

"However, it was quickly determined by investigators that the nature of the communication did not involve any form of an explosive device," the chief said.

"Out of an abundance of caution, an exterior sweep of the building was conducted by the sheriff’s K-9 unit," he said.

A hold-in-place was then called at 1:20 p.m. for sixth period, with heightened police presence.

Detective James Calaski was investigating "a series of social media chats which have occurred over the past week, culminating in [the] perceived threat," Ackermann said.

"The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office will be providing resources during this ongoing investigation," the chief added. "Currently there is no evidence to support any credible threat against the school, students or staff."
