Physician In Union Charged With Forging Signature On Prescriptions

A physician from Springfield who works out of an office in Union has been charged with forging the signature of another doctor on prescriptions, police said.

Dr. Robert Hutchinson, 49, has been charged with obtaining by fraud, uttering a forged document and receiving stolen property. 

Union police were called to a medical practice on Galloping Hill Road Oct. 12 by a physician who said that some prescriptions contained his forged signature. 

An investigation by Detective Michael Theissen and the Union County Prosecutor's Opiate Task Force revealed that eight "questionable" prescriptions written to a fellow doctor in the practice that had been signed with the forged signature, police said. Police said Hutchinson obtained Xanax with the forged prescriptions. 

Hutchinson surrendered Monday and was released pending a future court date.
