Fair Lawn Police Officer Hospitalized After Rear-Ending Jeep

A Fair Lawn police vehicle rear-ended a Jeep that was stopped in traffic Saturday night, sending the officer to the hospital, authorities said.

Two girls in the Jeep, one 13 and the other 12, were treated at the scene for minor injuries after the crash on Broadway (Route 4) just past the McDonald's around 8 p.m., Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

The 45-year-old Paterson driver of the 2000 Grand Cherokee was OK, he said.

Officer Michael Franco was taken to the Valley Hospital with an ankle injury, Metzler said.

Both vehicles were damaged. The police vehicle – a 2017 Ford Explorer – had to be towed, the sergeant said.
