Elmwood Park police officer chases down accused equipment thief

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: An Elmwood Park police officer collared an accused equipment thief from Fair Lawn after a foot chase into Saddle Brook this afternoon.

An employee at the Sanzari construction yard on Wallace Street chased 40-year-old Jason Mouzon along the NJ Transit tracks into Saddle Brook, where he was joined by transit police and a Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, just after 3 p.m., Police Chief Michael Foligno said tonight.

Elmwood Park Police Officer Keith Hartmann was holding a perimeter position on East 54th Street when he spotted Mouzon jump from the railroad embankment, Foligno said.

Hartmann chased and caught him on Midland Avenue, the chief said.

Mouzon, who had outstanding warrants out of Englewood, was being transported to the Bergen County Jail on $2,500 bail on theft charges.
