Sheri A. McGill remained held in the Bergen County Jail early Monday pending a detention hearing on charges of possessing drugs and paraphernalia and maintaining a public nuisance, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.
Her 53-year-old live-in boyfriend was treated for smoke inhalation at the West Main Street home after the couple tried to put out the flames with a garden hose around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Ackermann said.
A Glen Rock police officer doused the blaze with a portable extinguisher, Fire Chief Thomas Jennings said.
“Once the scene was made safe by firefighters, it was determined that [McGill] had set her bedroom on fire while smoking crack cocaine,” Ackerman said.
Her boyfriend refused further medical assistance, he said.
Jennings thanked Hawthorne firefighters “for providing coverage to the Borough of Glen Rock while we operated at the fire.”
