Raymond J. Bruno, 86, of Fair Lawn

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Raymond J. Bruno, 86, of Fair Lawn, died Tuesday, Sept. 22. 

Bruno attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He was a U.S. Army sergeant first class, serving from 1951-59, leading his men with distinction in the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars to his Korean Service Medal and a Combat Infantry Badge for exemplary duties performed under fire in close proximity with the enemy. 

He was employed by the Borden Co. and later as an insurance professional for Prudential Insurance Co. for 32 years.

Upon retirement he became an activities director at the Whitehall Residence and for the last several years volunteered daily at the senior center in Fair Lawn. He was an avid gardener and he loved the outdoors, having been an Eagle Scout as a child. 

He is survived by his children, Raymond J. Bruno and his wife, Cheryl, Jeffrey S. Bruno and Cynthia A. Nicol and her husband, Douglas; his grandchildren, Christopher, Colin, Michael, Jonathan, Kinsey and James Bruno, Samantha, Cooper and Connor Nicol; his great-granddaughter, Everly Bruno; and his friend and former wife, Beverly.

 Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes handled the arrangements

A funeral service will be held Friday, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the cremation at the convenience of the family.
